I just bought a new microscope, and like anyone with a new instrument of science, I couldn’t wait to take it for a test run! After examining hair, puddles, and red blood cells, I was left wondering what else I could look at. My daughter had a brilliant suggestion – why not look at some of my makeup under the microscope? I could combine two of my favorite things – makeup and science, and check out what my new microscope could do!
While acids and bases have many uses in the world, it may not always be evident that they’re there. For example, you could pull just about any liquid out of your kitchen cabinet, but would you know if it was and acid or a base, simply by looking at it? One way to tell whether something has acidic or alkaline properties is by using an indicator. This is something that can change color when in the presence of an acid or a base, and it can let you know this property of the material you’re testing!
The heart is an incredible machine. Working tirelessly day and night, it pushes our blood throughout our entire body, even working against gravity to get our body the nutrition it needs to sustain itself! The heart is made up of a lot of muscles, tissues, and nerve cells that all work together to keep our blood pumping through our bodies. In this post, we’ll learn about all of the components of the heart, and built our own anatomical model to show off what we’ve learned!
